Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Prime Accused Sonam Raghuvanshi Taken for Medical Examination as Investigation Deepens

Introduction: A Honeymoon Ends in Horror

In a chilling turn of events, a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya has ended in the murder of 30-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with four others, stands accused of orchestrating and executing his murder in what police have described as a “fully planned operation.”

Medical Examination in Shillong

In the early hours of Wednesday, Sonam Raghuvanshi was brought to Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong for a medical examination. She is currently under a three-day transit remand with the Meghalaya Police, who are intensifying their investigation into the case. This move comes ahead of her appearance before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Shillong.

Details of the Murder Plot

Sonam and her husband Raja were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya when Raja mysteriously went missing. On June 2, his body was discovered in a deep gorge in Sohra, near Cherrapunji. The initial shock turned into a full-fledged murder investigation after police discovered Sonam abandoned near a roadside dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway in Uttar Pradesh.

Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong later confirmed that Sonam, along with four others — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand — were responsible for the murder. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) of the Meghalaya Police arrested the accused from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, confirming their involvement through initial confessions.

Four Accused Flown from Indore to Shillong via Guwahati

On Wednesday morning, Shillong Police brought the four co-accused to Guwahati Airport from Indore, from where they will be transferred to Shillong for further custodial investigation. A seven-day transit remand has been secured for these four individuals.

Deputy CM Tynsong confirmed that Sonam is “fully involved” in the murder plot and that she played a central role during the couple’s stay in Meghalaya.

Public Outrage at Indore Airport

During the transportation of the accused at Indore Airport, a bystander named Sushil Lakwani attempted to physically assault one of the accused in anger. He stated to media present:

"I hit him because I am angry that a resident of Indore was killed. They should be hanged till death. The woman killed the man with full planning."
The police swiftly intervened to de-escalate the situation and protect the accused.

Background: A Vanishing Honeymoon

Both Raja and Sonam were recently married and had embarked on a honeymoon to Meghalaya, a popular destination known for its scenic landscapes. They went missing during their trip, prompting concern from family and local authorities. The gruesome discovery of Raja’s body in a gorge sparked national attention and led to the formation of the SIT.

Conclusion: Justice Awaits

As the case unfolds, the Meghalaya Police are expected to present all the accused in court and continue with a detailed interrogation. The incident has sparked widespread media coverage and renewed discussions around safety, domestic violence, and planned spousal murders.

The justice system now faces the crucial task of uncovering the full depth of the conspiracy and delivering justice for Raja Raghuvanshi.
