🔹 Airports Reopen Following Temporary Shutdown

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), on Monday, announced the reopening of 32 airports across northern and western India. These airports had been temporarily shut down amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, with the closure initially extended until Thursday, May 15.

Air India acknowledged this update and expressed its intention to gradually resume operations at the affected airports. The airline reiterated that:

"We are working towards progressively commencing flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot."

IndiGo also mirrored this sentiment, saying:

"In line with the latest government directives, the airports are open for operations. We will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes."

🔹 Security Situation: Drone Activity and Military Response

Security concerns have intensified amid reports of drone activity in the Samba sector, located near the India-Pakistan border. According to Indian Army sources:

  • A small number of Pakistani drones entered Indian airspace in the Samba region.

  • These drones were intercepted by India's air defence systems.

  • Red streaks and explosions were reported during interception, sparking concern in nearby areas.

  • The Indian Army confirmed that the situation is under full control and emphasized that there is no reason for alarm.

The ongoing airspace security checks and proactive defence measures may continue to affect commercial flight operations over sensitive air zones.

🔹 Conclusion

The temporary suspension of flight services by Air India and IndiGo comes at a time of heightened security in India’s northern and western airspace. With 32 airports reopening, both airlines are working toward restoring normal operations in phases.

Passengers are advised to stay updated through official airline channels and travel advisories. The evolving India-Pakistan geopolitical situation continues to have a direct impact on civil aviation, requiring coordinated responses from airlines, aviation authorities, and defence agencies.
