"India and US Forge Stronger Counterterrorism Alliance"



India and US Join Forces Against Terrorism:


In a joint statement following the Counterterrorism Joint Working Group (CTJWG) and 6th Designations Dialogue, India and the United States have reiterated their strong stance against terrorism. Specifically, they called for the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot terrorist attacks to be brought to justice.


International Laws and Regulations:


International laws related to terrorism include various United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, particularly those issued by the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee. These resolutions aim to combat terrorism by imposing sanctions on designated terrorist organizations and individuals. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) also sets global standards to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, which member countries are expected to adhere to.


Laws in India:


In India, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) provides the legal framework for dealing with terrorist activities. Under this act, terrorist organizations can be banned, and individuals associated with them can be prosecuted. The Indian government regularly reviews and updates its list of banned terrorist organizations and individuals, by international norms and its national security interests.


Positive Relations Changes Since 2014:


Since 2014, India-US relations have witnessed significant positive changes, particularly in counterterrorism cooperation. Establishing the Counterterrorism Joint Working Group and the Designations Dialogue reflects the deepening of bilateral collaboration in addressing shared security concerns. Additionally, the elevation of the US-India strategic partnership and the frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries have bolstered cooperation in various fields, including defense, intelligence-sharing, and counterterrorism efforts.

Overall, the joint efforts between India and the US against terrorism signify a commitment to combatting this global menace and promoting regional security and stability.
