(NSPL), a subsidiary of Nibe Limited, announced its ambitious plan to establish India's first multi-sensor, all-weather, high-revisit Earth Observation Satellite Constellation. Strategic Initiative to Strengthen India’s Defence-Space Capabilities
NSPL's groundbreaking initiative aims to address the space-based earth observation needs of various Indian stakeholders by creating the first-ever private constellation of Earth Observation Satellites in India. The project involves the launch of 40 satellites into low-Earth orbit (LEO) over the next five to six years. These satellites will provide high-resolution imagery, with a ground sample distance (GSD) of less than or equal to 50 cm, offering high revisit times and an end-to-end turnkey solution for national defence and other strategic interests.
Currently, India relies on foreign satellite imagery and limited sovereign satellites for critical earth observation data, which often falls short of the country’s evolving needs in terms of national security and strategic objectives. NSPL’s initiative will not only reduce this dependency but will also create a robust indigenous capability to cater to the demands of defence, urban planning, and disaster management, among other sectors.

To realize this vision, NSPL has signed MoUs and agreements with several Indian and global partners, forming a consortium that includes prominent names like:

All-Weather LEO Satellite Constellation
The proposed constellation will consist of multi-sensor, all-weather satellites that can function under any environmental condition. This will offer high-resolution imaging capabilities, ensuring that India has continuous access to crucial data for various strategic applications, including national defence, urban development, and environmental monitoring. NSPL will make this constellation available to end-users through a leased or user-definable exploitation model, providing flexibility and affordability.
