TVK Chief Vijay Summoned by CBI in Karur Stampede Case: Legal and Constitutional Dimensions
Background of the Karur Stampede Tragedy On September 27, 2025 , a tragic stampede occurred during a political rally organised by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay in Karur district, Tamil Nadu . The incident resulted in the death of at least 41 people and left over 60 injured , many of them women and children who had travelled from different parts of the state to attend the rally. The rally was scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm , but Vijay reportedly arrived only at 7:30 pm , leading to prolonged waiting periods, swelling crowds, and severe mismanagement at the venue.
